Presentation of INDIGO in Sustainable Places 2016

Sustainable Places International Conference 2016 was held in Anglet, France between June 29th and July 1st 2016. This fourth edition gathered scientists, researchers and engineers, from research institutions and industry, around one of the greatest challenges that our societies have ever faced: facilitating innovative solutions for renovation and new construction to ensure the long-term environmental sustainability of ever-growing, densifying urban areas, in a resource-constrained world.

To tackle this issue, the SP’16 conference advances the state of the art in energy efficiency at building, district and city levels. To this end, Information and Communications Technology (ICT), along with other key research domains (energy, materials, methods and practices, etc.) were at the core of the conference.

On this occasion, participants had the opportunity to assess innovative initiatives, access up-to-date information, discuss market trends and envision possible synergies.  Some key stakeholders from the energy efficiency value chain joined the event. Plus, it was a good opportunity to network and cluster with other european funded projects, in the frameworks FP7 and H2020.

INDIGO was introduced on the second day of the conference, through the presentation made by Francesco Passerini (R2M Solution Srl) of the paper “Development of Efficient District Cooling Systems”, which will be published by the Journal for Entrepreneurship and Sustainability Issues. The presentation highlighted the role of District Cooling Systems in ensuring sustainable energy usage and discussed the approaches being developed in INDIGO to advance the market penetration of state-of-the-art technologies in this area.
